This is a microsite from the Bellingcat Digital Hate and Harms team. It focuses on documenting and sharing information about symbols used by hate groups from around the world.
You can navigate the lists of symbols via the menu.
This Glossary is not intended to be exhaustive. There are many more symbols out there than what we have collated here. We have chosen symbols for this Glossary based on previous Bellingcat research and investigations.
We have focused on some of the most common symbols used in transnational contexts, as well as some symbols that may be less well-known outside specific national, regional and/or cultural contexts, but that are still associated with significant hate activity.
You should always evaluate the symbols you see in context. Many of the symbols in this Glossary have been or are used, even if only occasionally, in non-hateful contexts. Completely unrelated non-hateful symbols may also sometimes resemble the symbols you see in this guide.
